First Friday Coffeehouse features The Gypsy Ramblers on Feb. 3

First Friday Coffeehouse will feature the multi-American music stylings of The Gypsy Ramblers, an Eastern Panhandle group that become renown in the region.

The event is scheduled for Feb. 3 at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45 between Shepherdstown and Martinsburg. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7 p.m.

All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform at one of the area’s premier listening rooms.The open mic hour starts at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by the feature acts.

The Gypsy Ramblers are a five-piece band who play a blend of gypsy, jazz, ‘dawg’ and blues music. The repertoire is a mix of instrumental and vocal songs, more than half of which is original material written by the band.

The group features Matt Robinson on mandolin, Butch Sanders on drums, Lavinia Reid on violin, Jeff Kauffman on guitar and Bill Unger on bass. Influences include David Grisman, Joe Craven, Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, Irvin Berlin and Louis Armstrong. Audiences will hear some of those artists and more as the band weaves its way through a broad palette of popular music genres from blues to bluegrass.
