League celebrates anniversary

Submitted photo Tina Burns and Barbara Bratina celebrate the 99th anniversary of the League of Women Voters at a recent local meeting of the organization.
The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County held a members meeting Feb. 7 to mark the 99th anniversary of the national organization with champagne, cake and local political policy.
Tina Burns and Barabra Bratina, sisters whose mother, Josephine Bratina, was one of the founders of the Jefferson County League, provided the refreshments and Barbara presented her collection of historic dresses some of which
had been worn by their mother.
Eleanor Finn read her summary of the County Commission meetings for the past year and took questions and suggestions from the members about it. She will present the findings to the County Commission in the spring.
The League looks forward to many more years
of encouraging informed and active participation in the democratic process through voter registration and education, and the promotion of fair, open
and accessible govern-
ment.
