Shepherdstown Town Council met Tuesday evening to have the first reading of two ordinances. First was the reading of an ordinance to create and adopt Section 2-109 of Chapter 1, Title 2 of the Code of Shepherdstown to allow the Town to enter into contracts with other jurisdictions by resolution. Secondly, an ordinance to create and adopt Section 8-801 of Chapter 8 Title 7 of the Code of Shepherdstown to allow the Town to impose liens for delinquent municipal fees, interest

and penalties. Both ordinances are expected to pass at next month’s Council meeting.

Council approved upcoming activities for the following dates: Dog Fest will be Apr. 29-30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Shepherdstown Farmer’s Market was approved to begin Apr. 2 and run through Dec. 24. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday. There will be three new vendors this year, Daughter’s Table, a West Virginia farm business that does charcuterie and other meats, Bob Tabb, a Jefferson County farmer who will provide some unique items like corn meal and popcorn, as well out of season vegetables that he is able to grow. Tangy Farm, a hydroponic farmer on Persimmon Lane is the third new addition to the market, providing lettuces and rabbit and possibly other meats as well.

The annual May Day parade will be held on May 6, which is the same day as Shepherd’s graduation. Parade time has been moved to 11 a.m. instead of noon as in previous years.

Mayor Jim Auxer also took time to recognize all the work the Historic Shepherdstown Commission has done at the Entler Hotel during 2016. Work including, rebuilding of the exterior Princess Street stairs and landing, refinishing floors, removing asbestos, eliminating mold, water heater replacement, painting, various repairs and removal of bats from the Carriage House attic cost over $32,000. The Shepherdstown Visitor’s Center will be moving from the Entler Hotel location to a new location at Princess and New streets.
