“March First, Move Forward!” ~ A Progressive Action Fair set in town

By Staff | Feb 24, 2017

A gathering of National and Local progressive groups will be present at the ‘March First, Move Foward! Progressive action fair on Mar. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Town Run Brewery. The groups are ready for all to join their forces to Learn! about programs that are effecting legislative change; Organize! get involved with projects that matter most to you; and Network! with like-minded people.

With so many people called to action by the Women’s March on Washington, this event is to help willing activists towards groups where one can “pick your project” and get involved. Activism comes in many forms and this fair chooses groups that are effecting legislative change so that all can resist the threats to human and civil rights, the environment and the Constitution. It will showcase volunteer opportunities for people, many of whom have never been engaged in civic action and who are eager to get to work.

Organizations include Sky Truth, Sierra Club, Shenandoah Women’s Center, Planned Parenthood, Voter Registration, WV Rivers Coalition, Fairness WV, Jefferson County Democrats Association, Free-Syria, Vigilance Jefferson County, Citizens Climate Lobby, ACLU-WV, Progressive Confluence, Sustainable Shepherdstown, West Virginian’s for Affordable Healthcare and NAACP of Berkeley County.

The keynote speaker: Meshea Poore, a Howard University graduate with a juris doctorate from The Southern University Law Center has represented the 37th District of West Virginia. She will give a brief talk on how one can Promote Legislative Change at 6:30 p.m.

Those who are part of an organization that is working for legislative change and are interested in having a booth at this event, please contact Maria Allen at Mariastaqueria@gmail.com or 703-599-2507.
