Feature documentary to be shown at Presbyterian Church

By Staff | Mar 3, 2017

‘Out of Order’ is a groundbreaking feature documentary revealing the complex and painful struggles faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) faith leaders as they confront entrenched bigotry and work to build loving support within their churches.

The film follows the journeys of several Presbyterian Church (USA) ministers and people seeking ordination across the country and offers audiences a glimpse into what it looks like to navigate the reality of gender transition and lived sexual identity as a person of faith.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with Alex McNeil, who is featured in the film. McNeil is also executive director of More Light Presbyterians, an LGBTQ advocacy organization within the Presbyterian Church. He holds a Master’s of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, is the first openly transgender person to head a mainline Protestant organization.

The documentary will be shown Mar. 12 at 4 p.m. in the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. It is free and open to the public.
