Volunteers needed for work day at Stauffer’s Marsh
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is seeking volunteers to help with improvements at its Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve in Berkeley County on Saturday, Mar. 11.
The work to be done will be aimed at converting a large open field to a pollinator meadow.
Specific tasks will include cutting and limbing locust trees, building brush piles and creating a fire break around the perimeter of the field.
Anyone willing and able to pitch in will be welcomed. In particular, this will be a good learning experience for those who want to know more about habitat restoration in general and the creation of pollinator habitats in particular
The work will start at 9 a.m. and last until 12 noon.
All necessary tools will be provided, along with water and first aid.
The Stauffer’s Marsh Nature Preserve is located in Back Creek Valley in Berkeley County, one-half mile south of Shanghai, on the east side of Back Creek Valley Road (County Route 7).
A map and information about the preserve can be found at www.potomacaudubon.org.
