First Friday Coffeehouse to feature Piedmont Blues

By Staff | Apr 17, 2017

First Friday Coffeehouse will feature the amazing guitar and songwriting of North Carolina’s Jon Shain. The event is held April 7 at Trinity Orchard House on Route 45 mid-way between Shepherdstown and Martinsburg, West Virginia. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7 p.m. All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform at one of the area’s premier listening rooms. The open mic hour starts at 7:30 and is followed by the feature acts.

Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter, accomplished fingerstyle guitar picker and an internationally touring artist. A recent finalist at the International Blues Challenge, Shain keeps the Piedmont blues (think Mississippi John Hurt) alive while incorporating its traditional elements into his own modern approach. He seamlessly mixes in narrative songs with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. His latest album is a joint effort with frequent Prairie Home Companion guest, Joe Newberry.

“Jon Shain brings a fingerpicked folk sound that sparkles like fine crystal with similar delicacy and scintillation. He’s well-versed in Piedmont country blues but equally adept at soft-spoken story-songs, delivered in a dry, easygoing tenor.”-Chris Parker, The Independent Weekly.

Enjoy a great evening of music and fellowship. Snacks and refreshments served. Trinity Orchard House is located at 4599 Shepherdstown Rd. (Rt. 45), Martinsburg, WV 25401. From Shepherdstown, its four miles on the right from the four-way stop…just before The Pump House. A $10 donation per person is requested.
