Additional railroad closings expected

By Staff | May 5, 2017

Please be advised that there will be a Norfolk Southern railroad rail gang heading to Washington County, Maryland on or about April 4. There are several roads throughout Washington County and Jefferson County. Listed below with railroad mileposts as an indicator for proximity to each other.

HIGH STREET SHEPERDSTOWN MILEPOST 16.50 (5/1-5/3 and 5/8-5/9)

GERMAN STREET SHEPERDSTOWN MILEPOST 16.60 (5/1-5/3 and 5/8-5/9)

WASHINGTON STREET SHEPERDSTOWN MILEPOST 16.80 (5/1-5/3 and 5/8-5/9)

MORGAN DRIVE ROAD JEFFERSON COUNTY MILEPOST 17.80 (5/1-5/3 and 5/8-5/9)

These roads will likely be closed twice. The first time will be by the rail gang who is responsible for laying new rail through the crossing. The second time will be when the surfacing gang comes through to pave the crossings. The timeframe runs from April 4 through May 11.

The number of crossings closed at one time can vary. Most of the time the gang works between 7a.m. to 5 p.m. The railroad will attempt to have crossings open for traffic during the overnight hours unless it is impossible, again depending on the work involved with each specific crossing. Please keep in mind the schedule often changes.
