Annual Garden Club Plant Sale scheduled
Members of the Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club are celebrating the arrival of Spring by preparing for their annual plant sale to be held on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. The sale will be held at its traditional location, on the grounds of the Trinity Episcopal Church at the corner of German and Church Streets in Shepherdstown. This is a popular event in Shepherdstown, where shoppers often line up waiting for the gates to open at 9 a.m.
For this annual sale, club members supply a large selection of plants from their own gardens and those of friends. Shoppers can expect to find popular natives, such as blue bells, cone flowers, twin leaf and bee balm, a wide variety of spring and summer blooming perennials, flowering shrubs and more, all at modest prices. Again this year, club member donations will be supplemented by unusual annuals, herbs and hanging baskets from a local nursery.
Members will staff a table to answer general gardening questions and provide growing tips for customer’s purchases. Customers also will have an opportunity to purchase locally produced Duchess Apiary honey and chat with the beekeeper. Gardening books will be available for modest prices.
Proceeds from this annual sale fund a $1000 scholarship for a local high school senior, books with nature and gardening themes are donated to local school libraries, fund a local camp scholarship and promote conservation and beautification projects in our community.
The club meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at St. Agnes Parish Center, Shepherdstown, at 1 p.m. We welcome new members. Contact Kathy Gilbert at katebg52@wave2net.com.
