First Friday Coffeehouse presents dulcimer virtuoso

By Staff | May 5, 2017

First Friday Coffeehouse will feature Virginia’s Madeline MacNeil, master of the hammered dulcimer and area favorite. The event is held Friday at Trinity Orchard House. Doors open for social time and open mic sign-up at 7 p.m. All open mic participants should be there early to get a slot to perform. The open mic hour starts at 7:30 and is followed by the feature acts.

MacNeil’s audiences hold their collective breath as the last notes of her songs drift into the tableau of stages large and small. Since 1972, when she began performing in Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park, Madeline’s goal has always been to bring listeners into the song. Her interest in stories first brought the mountain and hammered dulcimers to her attention and she has evolved to be one of the best. She embraces the history of Appalachia as she effortlessly sings and tells the stories with her beautiful voice and exceptional instrumental skills.

MacNeil has taught dulcimer classes, published numerous instructional books and has recorded more than a dozen CDs. For more visitwww.madelinemacneil.com.
