Audubon to host Leetown bird walk
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a bird walk on the grounds of the US Geological Survey’s Leetown Science Center on Saturday, May 20. The walk start at 7:30 a.m. and be led by Bob Dean and Heather Walsh.
Participants should plan to meet in the parking lot of the Center’s Fish Health Laboratory, which is the large building with brown paneling on the east side of Leetown Road.
The walk will be free and open to anyone with an interest, regardless of their birding skills. It will involve easy walking over level ground, and children and families will be welcome.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Registration is available on the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org.
The walk will focus on the property associated with the Fish Health Laboratory. The property is not large but it includes a mix of ponds and woods that host a wide variety of bird species.
Participants should wear sturdy footwear, dress for the prevailing weather conditions, and bring along insect repellant and drinking water. Binoculars will be provided if needed.
