Registration open for Audubon birding trip
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is teaming up with the Mountaineer Audubon Society to offer a birding trip to two sites in Preston County, on Saturday, May 27.
The first stop will be at the Cranesville Swamp Natural Area from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The second stop will be at Cooper’s Rock State Forest from 12 to 3 p.m.
Both these sites are prime birding areas where rich varieties of species can be seen.
The trip will be free and anyone with an interest will be welcome. However, pre-registration will be required. Easy registration is available on the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org.
Travel time between the Jefferson/Berkeley County area and Preston County is about three hours each way. Those who wish to join the trip can drive on their own or, if they live close to Shepherdstown, carpool from the Shepherdstown Food Lion parking lot on Route 45 at 6 a.m.
Participants should dress for the prevailing weather conditions, pack a lunch and bring insect repellent. Binoculars will be available for those who do not have their own.
