The 14th annual “Hot Monkey’s Big Chili Cook Off” to benefit Cystic Fibrosis was held Saturday at the train station in Shepherdstown. River Jenkins, a 14-year-old Martinsburg High School student, was given top honors for her “Really Good Chili” at the event.

“I’m so excited that I won,” Jenkins said. “I just can’t believe it!”

Jenkins’ prizes included a trophy, a $100 gift certificate to the Bavarian Inn and a gourmet chocolate gift basket.

Jenkins said she loves to cook and often cooks for her whole family at home. She plans to go to culinary school, and would like to own a restaurant one day.

Event goers got to sample and vote on more than 15 varieties of chili, as well as purchase goods baked by volunteers.

The event raised $5,144 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
