Freedom’s Run set to invade town on Saturday
For the ninth year, Saturday’s annual Freedom’s Run is bringing people from all over the world to Shepherdstown.
The streets will be filled with runners from the United States and Canada, as more than 2,000 participants take on the 5K, 10K, half-marathon and marathon races.
“Every year we get such wonderful comments about the hospitality, beauty and history of our small town. We are so grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time to welcome the visitors,” said event founder Dr. Mark Cucuzzella.
The courses remained unchanged this year, with the 5K and 10K beginning in downtown Shepherdstown. The marathon will begin in Harpers Ferry, with all races concluding at the 50-yard line at Ram Stadium. While the half-marathon begins in Shepherdstown, it takes runners the opposite direction of the shorter races, going toward Maryland and along the Potomac River.
The forecast for the big day has high temperatures in the mid-60s and sunny.
Race-day registration will be available for all races except the marathon.
