SHEPHERDSTOWN – The Shepherdstown Men’s Club invites the Shepherdstown community to the annual Labor Day Picnic 2 p.m. Sept. 6 at Morgan’s Grove Park.

This traditional community-wide event will take place rain or shine. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream available for a nominal price. Picnickers are encouraged to bring along side dishes for themselves or to share. The plates, table covers and utensils will be provided. The pavilion is equipped with picnic tables, which have attached benches. Many experienced participants bring along their own ice chests and folding lawn chairs and blankets to sit with their family on the grass adjacent to the pavilion.

Peter Wilson, past president of the Men’s Club, will be the guest speaker and give a short talk about Morgan’s Grove Park’s past role in the community and plans for the future followed at 4 p.m. by the rousing music of the Rohrersville band, a longtime favorite and a traditional part of the various Labor Day Picnic festivities.

“Morgan’s Grove Park is an important club asset, which we are working hard to ensure stays as an integral part of day-to-day life in our community,” Men’s Cub President Mike Austin said. “There is no better way to do that than to gather with our families, share a picnic meal, visit with friends and neighbors, and enjoy the music provided by our neighbors from Rohrersville. Each year, they give up their Labor Day holiday and faithfully come to participate in our picnic and entertain us.”

Morgan’s Grove Park is owned by the Men’s Club, but is operated by Jefferson County to provide recreational facilities in the northern part of the county. It is steeped in historic and community lore.
