Men’s Club to hold community work day

By Staff | Aug 20, 2010

SHEPHERDSTOWN – The Shepherdstown Men’s Club will hold a community work day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 28 to begin brightening up the War Memorial Building.

“The ‘patina’ of aging paint in old, even historic buildings sooner or later loses some of its charm,” Men’s Club President Mike Austin said.

He added that it is just not good management of the Men’s Club’s hard-earned money to hire contractors when club members and others in the community, who treasure the grand old building, have the capability and are willing to handle some of the maintenance.

“We would appreciate it if community and club volunteers could give us a couple hours of work,” said SMC’s Maintenance Chairman Tom Keyrouze, who is coordinating the effort.

“Even ‘sidewalk supervisors’ are invited, which always makes it more fun,” he continued. “If Huckleberry Finn shows up, we will have extra paint brushes available and put him to work too. We plan to start with some painting effort on the foyer and make as much progress as we can. This is the area most heavily used by our visitors and the general public. We will adjust the work to the number of willing helpers.”

All necessary tools and equipment will be provided by the club.

Anyone wishing to help can contact Keyrouze at MOT1575@AOL.com or at 518-894-8318.
