Battlefield tours are set

By Staff | Sep 19, 2010

SHEPHERDSTOWN – To honor the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Shepherdstown, Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association has scheduled battlefield tours, including a wading of the Potomac River.

Two tours are set for 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine.

Historians Tom Clemens and Tom McGrath will be the guides for the one-and-a-half- to two-hour tours.

The tour is about one and a half miles long and if wading in the Potomac has no appeal, you can meet the tour on the West Virginia shore of the river.

After each tour, the participants will walk to 132 Trough Bend Lane to enjoy a barbecue with refreshments. A $30-per-person donation is requested.

Reservations are required and space is limited. Go to battleofshepherdstown.org/Hats.html to make a reservation.

Precise instructions for the tours will be e-mailed.
