Keller wins award

Local photographer Benita Keller received the First Place Award for her photograph “Girl and Carousel Horse, Coney Island, NY, 2010” in the 2010 Juried Professional Photography Exhibition held at The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, Md.

Keller, a freelance fine art photographer and photojournalist, teaches photography part-time at Hagerstown Community College and The Montgomery College School of Art and Design, Silver Spring, Md.

Also this year Keller was awarded a grant through the West Virginia State Arts Council and the Arts and Humanities Alliance of Jefferson County to conduct workshops and project in the black and white silver film process called The Jefferson County Photography Project.

Keller lives in Shepherdstown and received her master’s in photography from University of Maryland.

A collection of Keller’s photographs can be seen at The Bridge Gallery, and her award-winning photograph will be on display at there for the Holiday Show opening on Nov. 20.
