Aging event set for May 20
The Shepherd University Department of Social Work and the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services will present the Third annual Aging Well Workshop, Life’s Heroic Journey: Care of Self/Caring for Others, on Friday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center.
Workshop keynote speaker will be Robin Straight, the West Virginia representative to the National Family Caregivers Association and the founder and president of Embracing Family Caregivers. She speaks across the state on aging well, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
There will be various other presenters at the workshop with backgrounds including social work, psychotherapy, education and senior services.
The workshop is open to the public, but officially offers six continuing education credits for social workers (Category I) and members of allied helping professions, including LPCs. For members of the community the workshop cost is $10. For those registering for CEU credits, the workshop cost is $30. There is no registration fee for employees of agencies associated with the Bureau of Senior Citizens. Lunch is not included in the registration costs, but an hour and 15 minutes is provided for a lunch break.
