Obituary-Willard

Louise Brooks Willard, of Shepherdstown, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 28, 2013. She was a native of Springfield, Mass.

Born in 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Cummings Brooks, vice president and director of the Monsanto Chemical Co., and Marie Louise Jensen Willard. She was a graduate of the Ethel Walker School and Vassar College.

She married Henry K. Willard II, of Washington, D.C., in the Congregational Church, Nantucket, Mass., on Sept. 1, 1950. They were married for 62 years.

They moved from Washington when her husband retired to Jefferson County in 1979.

She is survived by her husband, of Shepherdstown; sons, Henry A. Willard III, of Shepherdstown and John Brooks Willard, of Clearville, Pa., and his wife, Inci.

She was president of the Shenandoah Garden Club, Charles Town; Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church, of Shepherdstown; and trustee of the Washington National Cathedral Association. She was also a member of the Washington Founders Committee of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and a board member of the Hospice of the Panhandle. She was a member of the Nantucket Yacht Club, the Sulgrave Club, Washington, and the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, Md.

Interment will be held at a later date in Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown.
