“Cool Green” Annexation Moves Forward
At Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Shepherdstown Town Council, members heard the first reading of a request to annex property populated by Cool Green Auto and Tire.
The property owned by Michael Bean was recommended for annexation at the Jan. 20 meeting of the Planning Commission during a preliminary hearing.
“We love that you want to be annexed into town.”
“We’d love to have you in town,” Commissioner Stephen Ayraud said at the Jan. 20 meeting.
Attorney Frank Hill represented the petitioner at both meetings.
According to the written request submitted to the Town Council, the area in question includes parcels located “on the east side of what would be an extension of Washington street.”
Buildings currently located on the property include the Cool Green Auto repair shop and a residential property.
The petitioner requested to be annexed as part of a plan to potentially expand the garage.
“The petitioner desires to annex the property and begin the planning process for his anticipated expansion of the garage… a modification of the front of the garage and the possible conversion of the existing single-family house to a component use of the applicant’s existing vehicle repair facility,” it stated.
The petitioners have requested to annexed in the “commercial district,”- a departure from typical requests.
It was noted at Tuesday’s meeting that the Town Council is the only city governmental committee who can vote to admit a property into the town under the “commercial” designation.
The Town Council unanimously voted to approve the first reading.
A second reading and Public Hearing on the annexation will be held at the next Town Council meeting, scheduled to take place Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
As part of Tuesday evening’s meeting, the council also voted to approve new dates for the Really Really Free Market, which will return Sunday March 30.
The council also approved the Annual Easter Parade and Egg Hunt.
Discussion began on a new Better Experiences for Shepherdstown Tourists (BEST) group event.
BEST member, Deb Tucker and Council member, Dave Springer announced plans to hold a Community-wide Yard Sale in early June 2014. Discussion was preliminary and no vote was taken on the matter, as the group continues to seek logistical input from the community.
