The Cash Mob and Silent Auction events held last weekend indeed benefited victims affected by the recent string of last night burglaries.

A grand total of $5,066 dollars was raised at Sunday evening’s silent auction, while Mellow Moods Cafe reported earnings of more than $3,000 dollars following Saturday’s day-long “Cash Mob,” event.

Mellow Moods manager, Jesse Lynn Custer Wilt said the outpouring of support she felt at Sunday’s auction blew her mind.

“It was a really amazing event and helped all of the businesses immensely,” she said

Despite the weather, Wilt said more than 200 people attended the auction.

Donations also came from far and wide for the event.

Last Thursday afternoon, event organizer Rebecca Drewry was forced to stop taking donations due to what she called “overwhelming response.”

The majority of businesses around town participated including Yarnability, Lotus Skincare, Lost Dog Coffee. Dickinson and Wait, Grapes and Grains, Hypnocoffee, Betty’s Restaurant, Four Seasons Books, and the Now and Then Shop, among others.

Services were also offered as auction prizes, including a graphic design package, photography sessions and massage packages.

Food and drinks for the event were donated by Martins and the local Food Lion grocery stores.

And local musicians such as Chelsea McBee and Natalia Cummings performed throughout the evening.

It does a heart good to see that kind of love and support from our town, Wilt said following the event Sunday.

Wilt also worked at Mellow Moods during Saturday’s Cash Mob and said it was a “record sales” day for the cafe.

“The word ‘mob’ completely describes that,” she said with a laugh.

“After the first hour of opening we had a line that was just wrapping around the inside of the building,” she said.

Wilt said she wanted to thank members of the Shepherdstown community for their support in both events.

“Without the town’s help, we wouldn’t have been able to get as much funding as we did to help us and all of the other businesses affected by the burglaries,” she said.

Wilt said the money raised from the Silent Auction will be split between the burglarized businesses to make up for their losses.

According to Police Chief David Ransom, the department is continuing its investigation of the burglaries.

“Information is trickling in,” he said.
