On March 11 Shepherdstown Mayor Jim Auxer signed an official proclamation naming April 1, 2014 National Service Recognition Day.

In the proclamation Mayor Auxer encourages residents to acknowledge the positive impacts of national service on Shepherdstown.

“Thank those who serve and to find ways to give back,” the proclamation stated.

The proclamation highlighted the work of Americorps and Senior Corps Volunteers.

Mayor Auxer called service the “hallmark of American character.”

“Corporation for National And Community Service shares a priority with mayors nationwide to engage citizens, improve lives and strengthen the communities,” he stated.
