It’s going to be a beautiful, fun and colorful May Day weekend in Shepherdstown with the return of the Shepherdstown Community Club’s 1st Weekend Handmade Market and other spring events!

Local and regional artists, artisans and crafters will come together May 3 and 4 at the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German Street to sell their quality handmade creations. The Handmade Market is open Saturday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. There is always free admission.

The featured creative sellers for this weekend’s market include Susan Carney Art (fine art paintings, monotype prints, art cards), Center Ring Design (functional pottery, fine art and scuplture), Nature’s Inspirations (statement jewelry made with fair-trade components), Creations by Tiger Lily (dog coats, car seat blankets, hummingbird feeders), Fire Robin Farm (functional pottery, dinnerware), Studio Three 17 (hand dyed scarves, clutch bags and accessories, table runners, tablet covers, journals), MFJ Designs (polymer clay creations, tableware accessories), Toni Kay Dye (wildlife art and feather paintings), Michael Dye (hand-carved wizard wands and figurines) and Creative Art and Soul (engraved stone and glass pendants, mosaic and tile art, etched glassware). The Handmade Market is sponsored by the Shepherdstown Community Club. Monies collected from sellers’ space fees go towards the maintenance and operation of the historic War Memorial Building and Morgan’s Grove Park.

Other events in downtown Shepherdstown this weekend are the annual May Day celebration, the Garden Club plant sale and the Shepherdstown Farmers Market.

The May Day festivities begin Saturday morning with the maypole erected on the McMurran Hall lawn, followed by a performance at 10 a.m, and the parade on German Street at noon. The Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club will hold their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon, in the side garden at 105 W. New Street.
