Sign up now for June 14 town-wide yard and tag sale
Plans are firming up for the town-wide Shepherdstown yard and tag sale scheduled for Saturday, June 14.
The sale is being sponsored by Shepherdstown’s BEST (Better Experiences for Shepherdstown Tourists) Group, with the support of the Town Council. The idea is to provide a fun community event that will also be an excellent opportunity to attract new visitors to the town.
Residents and organizations are being asked to offer for sale items they no longer need buty others may want, such as antiques, accessories, furniture, tools and books. Businesses are being asked to set up tag-sale tables in front of their stores.
The goal is to enlist at lest 200 families, organizations and businesses to participate. So far, organizers say they’ve made a good start toward that goal.
For those who haven’t yet signed up to participate and those who would like to do so, or for more information, contact David Springer at bakerstreethomes@gmail.com or call at 240-818-6688.
For those who don’t have anything to seel but who would still like to help with the event, also contact Dave. Volunteers will be needed to assist with various aspects of event logistics on the day of the sale.
The sale will be held rain or shine on June 14 from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m.
Here’s how it will work:
People who live in the town can set up their own sale tables in their own yards or outbuildings. Or, they can team up with their neighbors to set up tables throughout their blocks or neighborhoods, to make those areas a special focus of sale activity.
People who live in the Shepherdstown zip code but not within the town limits can join in the sale by brining their items to a special area that will be set up for them downtown. The specific location will be announced later.
Churches and other organizations can participate, too, by setting up tables on their properties, and asking their members to contribute items that can be sold to benefit the institution.
The BEST Group will publicize the event widely and will create a map that shows the locations of all the different sales, to help guide visitors to them.
Town-wide yard slaes of this kind have proven to be very popular in small towns around the country.
Updates about the sale will be available on a Facebook page that has been estalbihsed for the event at www.facebook.com/shepherdstownyardandtagsale.
