Fire damages home

On Monday, May 12, at approximately 3:33 p.m., Jefferson County Dispatch reported a dryer fire in a house located at 301 East High Street in Shepherdstown. The first police officer on scene advised of one occupant outside of the residence and heavy black smoke coming from the east side of the house.

Fire departments from Shepherdstown, Bakerton, Baker Heights, VA Hospital, Sharpsburg Md. and Boonsboro Md. responded to the incident.

The firefighters had the fire under control in about fifteen minutes. Due to the quick response by the fire departments, the fire was contained to one room. Firefighters rescued three ducks from the basement of the house. There were no injuries.
