Friday Painters art exhibit part of festivities

By Staff | May 16, 2014

As an integral part of this week-end’s Back Alley Tour and Tea, the Friday Painters will hold their annual art exhibit on the first floor of the War Memorial Building. Their work will be hung today and an informal reception with the participating artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening.

There are 15 participating artists. The show will remain up and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The curator, Mike Austin said, “We have a very dynamic group of artists that includes several new members who have joined us over the past year. Nearly every medium and style of painting and drawing are represented. In addition to the traditional mix of water color, oil, acrylic, pastel, and pen and ink work, we have been joined by Chris Williams who does superb air brush work. One of the strengths of our little group is that we learn from each other. You can see the impact reflected in the art.”

The Friday Painters roam the Eastern Panhandle doing plein air work and when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate they are provided sanctuary by the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church. The group is open to any local artists who desire to participate. For more information on the upcoming exhibit or the Friday Painters, contact michael.austin@frontiernet.net.
