Mary Lowe Campbell Watson

Mary Lowe Campbell Watson, of Shepherdstown, died peacefully at home on Sept. 11, 2013. She was 76 years of age. The daughter of Mary Lowe Siler and Delwyn Campbell, Mary was born on Oct. 20, 1936 and raised by her maternal grandparents, John Calvin Siler and Olive Nelson Snyder.

Mary taught in Washington County, Md. for thirty-five years and retired from Sharpsburg Elementary School where she taught third grade. Loved for her sweet disposition and good nature, she was especially soft-hearted when it came to cats. Her friends in the local book club recall that her favorite novels were feline detective stories.

She was a member and Elder of the Elk Branch Presbyterian Church, Duffields. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #155 in Shepherdstown for 25 years, and served as an officer in the organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Watson, who died March 31st, 1989. She is survived by her stepson Gregory B. Watson of Denver, Co., an aunt, Doris Miller, and cousins, James Miller, Jr. and Patty Miller of Mount Jackson, Va. as well as Emma Ruth McDonald and Royce Kelvin McDonald, Jr.. Her surviving second cousins, Betty Anne Lowe, Edna Mason Snyder, John McGary Snyder, and Jane Snyder Miller, are all of the greater Shepherdstown Area.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 11 am at the Elk Branch Presbyterian Church in Duffields, WVa. Rev. David Beesom officiated. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her husband, James Watson.
