Mary Alda Johnson
Mary Alda Johnson, 98, of Shepherdstown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Canterbury Center.
Born Feb. 7, 1915, in Inwood, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian Molly Swartz Pierce.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of the Middleway United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Thomas W. Johnson and his wife, Christina, of Shepherdstown; and two grandchildren, Amanda Keatts and husband, Shane, of Strasburg, Va., and Sarah Johnson, of Orlando, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Hunter Johnson. She was the last surviving member of the Pierce family of 10 and was preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Marvin, Calvin, Rueben and John B. Pierce; and four sisters, Lula Pierce, Lillian Custer, Minnie Zombro and Nellie Bradley.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel with Pastor Brian Darrell officiating. Interment was in Middleway Masonic Cemetery.
