Louis Leon Hilliard
Louis Leon Hilliard, 94, of Martinsburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.
Born June 13, 1919, in Shenandoah, Va., he was the son of the late W.J. and Lissie (Lucas) Hilliard.
He was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Martinsburg.
Louis served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After leaving the military, Louis was a truck owner/operator, delivering marl to many farms in the area. He retired from the O’Boyle tank lines, and had been previously employed by B&O Railroad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Reva (Miller) Hilliard; brothers, Lloyd, Leo, Bill, Herman, Oliver, and his twin brother, George; sisters, Lillian Billmyer, Eva Hockman, Ailesse Mongan, and Edna Turner; and granddaughter, Christina S. Hilliard.
He is survived by two sons, Raymond Hilliard, and his wife, Joan, of Clearwater, Fla., and Larry Hilliard and his wife, Becky, of Martinsburg; two daughters, Patricia Runkles and her husband, Galen, of Hedgesville, and Vickie Dunham and her husband, Jerry, of Hedgesville; and one sister, Dorothy May of Shepherdstown. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Louis was loved by his caregivers, Norma Ryder, Barbara Rice, Joyce Hanzlick, Elizabeth Harris, Darlene Miller, Donna Wright, Sylvia Miller, Sarah Twigg and Gloria Carrillo.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, 401 North High Street, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Eric Folk officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, or Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
