C. Eugene Starliper Sr.

C. Eugene Starliper Sr., “Gene,” 82, of Kearneysville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Canterbury Center.

Born Nov. 9, 1931, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Clifford Cecil Starliper and Mabel Irene Watson Starliper.

Gene was a member of the Leetown United Methodist Church, retired from 3M, and had served in the U.S. Army. He was a fan of Nascar and loved taking his antique car to cruise-ins and car shows, where he won many trophies throughout the years. He also loved watching the birds, studying their habits, and making sure they were fed every day. Gene was so proud of his children and their accomplishments and his grandchildren really brightened his life.

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Belle Locke Starliper; one son, Clifford E. Starliper Jr., and wife, Peggy, of Leetown; one daughter, Lydia S. Vickers, and husband, John, of Kearneysville; two sisters, Emma S. Locke and husband, Jim and Nancy S. Nichols, all of Shepherdstown; two grandchildren, Matthew John Vickers and Catherine Belle Vickers; one niece; one nephew; and all of the caregivers and friends who took such good care of him at the Canterbury Center.

A memorial service, with military honors, was held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Pleasant View Memory Gardens Chapel with the Pastor Joanna Marceron officiating. Inurnment followed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Leetown United Methodist Church, 11133 Leetown Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
