Kevin Dean Van Kirk

Kevin Dean Van Kirk, 48, of Shepherdstown, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson.

Born on Aug. 7, 1965, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Nancy Van Kirk (Benjamin) and the late Ralph Waldo Van Kirk.

Kevin was of the Christian faith and locally attended both Mt. Zion Assembly of God and Fellowship Bible Church.

He enjoyed working in food service and hospitality, having owned and operated The Uptown Cafe in Shepherdstown for two years. He later continued his cooking at the Shepherd University cafeteria.

Kevin is survived by his loving mother, Nancy Van Kirk Benjamin of Shepherdstown; one brother, Martin C. Van Kirk, of Rockville, Md.; two stepbrothers, Bruce Benjamin, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Stanley Benjamin of Boulder, Colo.; and one stepsister, Margaret Benjamin LaNoue of Albion, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert S. Benjamin.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/Charles Town, with Pastor Ellen Blackwell and Pastor Van Marsceau officiating.
