Margaret H. Cepelka Hench

Margaret H. Cepelka Hench, 88, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at her residence.

Born June 12, 1925, in Rippon, she was the daughter of H. Garland Heflebower and Stella (West) Heflebower.

She graduated from Charles Town High School, class of 1942 and graduated from Shepherd College in 1947 and also attended James Madison College.

Mrs. Hench retired as a school teacher having started in 1947 at Berryville High School and continued till retired from Clarke County High School in 1970.

She was a Tupperware dealer and manager for 24 years. She also served as the bookkeeper for Jay’s Automotive since 1982.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.

She was a member of Clarke County Retired Teachers and a life member of the Virginia Education Association.

She had been a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society since 1964, where she served as president.

She served as president of the Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71 Auxiliary.

She was a member of Lawson Botts UDC.

She was a member of Citizens Fire Company Auxiliary and a past president.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Cepelka, who died June 7, 1964, and Don Hench who died April 1, 1977; two brothers, Garland and Dan Heflebower; and four sisters, Virginia Andrews, Pauline Heskett, Lucille and Frances Heflebower.

She is survived by her son, Jay Cepelka and wife, Donna, Rippon; stepdaughter, Janie Hartzell and husband, Dick, New Cumberland, Pa., and family; three grandchildren, Christopher Cepelka and Karen and Austin, Tara Hough and husband, Mike and Kara Money and husband, Ben; three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Money, Colton Money and Trace Hough; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Duane Jensen officiating.

Interment was at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
