John Calvin Day Sr.

John Calvin Day Sr., 76, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born Sept. 1, 1937, in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late James Edgar Day and Frances Louthan Day.

He was a graduate of the Shepherdstown High School class of 1955, and attended Shepherd College.

He had owned and operated Sycamore Spring Dairy Farm.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by six sons, John C. Day Jr., Freddie Day, Drew Day, Mark Day, Gary Day, and Scott Day; two daughters, Julie Shackelford and Janie Dailey; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Banks-Gantt and Deloris Stone; a number of nieces and nephews; and his devoted friend and former wife, Shirley Day.

He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Christina Day; great-granddaughter, Sierra Singh; two sons-in-law, Richard Shackelford and John Dailey Sr.; step-grandson, John Dailey Jr.; three brothers, Roy L. Day, James W. Day, Dr. E. Allan Day; and three sisters, Mary Lee Stilwell, Macon Banks, and Elizabeth Myers.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, at Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joanna Merceron officiating. Interment was in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
