Mary Sue Eldridge
Mary Sue Eldridge, of Greenville, N.C., passed away at her home, surrounded by family, on Sunday Feb. 23.
Born in Utica, Ohio, in 1939, she spent the majority of her life in Shepherdstown. She graduated from Utica High School and proceeded to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Muskingham University, a Master of Arts degree from Ohio State University, and PhD in Elementary Guidance and Counseling from Ohio University.
While studying at Ohio University, Mary Sue met another student at a picnic, David, who she married shortly after in July of 1969. In 1974, they moved to Shepherdstown. There they raised their two sons, David and Jonathan, and continued her passion as an educator in elementary education at Shepherd University. Later, she went on to establish her career with over 20 years as an elementary school guidance counselor in the Montgomery County School System in Maryland.
Mary Sue was a dedicated member of the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church for 35 years, where served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. She was also an active member and served in the leadership of the local chapters of the American Association of University Women and the Philanthropic Educational Organization.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, live music, plays, and movies. After the death of her husband, Mary Sue moved to Greenville, to be close to her family.
Mary Sue is survived by her son, Jonathan, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her son, David and his wife, Anne, of Greenville, N.C., as well as her granddaughter, Hannah who is almost 3-years-old.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Washington St.
