Miriam E. Ellis

Miriam E. Ellis, 90, of Hedgesville, formerly of Shepherdstown, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Nov. 15, 1923, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Raymond Ryan and Maude Wigfield Ryan.

She was a member of Snyder’ Bible Church and a former member of the New Hope Assembly of God Church in Shepherdstown.

Miriam was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, class of 1940.

She was a clerk for the family’s store, Ryan’s Ice Cream, Candy and Nut Shop.

Miriam was a former farm owner who placed her farm into farmland preservation.

She is survived by a brother, Reginald Ryan, of Martinsburg; and a sister, Thelma Crawford, of Johnsontown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Ellis; two sisters, Ruby Sullivan and Dorothy Martin; and an infant brother, Robert Ryan.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Apr. 30 at 11 a.m. At Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Dick officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Cemetery.
