Joseph Allen Siler

Joseph Allen Siler, 81, of Shepherdstown, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born June 28, 1932, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Howard Nicholas Siler and A. Pearl Lynch Siler.

Col. Siler was a retired U.S. Marine with 30 years of service, serving in Mt. Fugi, Japan, Vietnam and Okinawa.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, class of 1950 and a graduate of VMI, class of 1954. He was in the Athletic Hall of Fame at both schools. He was an avid golfer and a founding member of MEG golf group.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Morris Siler, at home: one son, Joseph Siler, Jr. and wife, Julie, of Shepherdstown; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Kate and Scott Siler, of the Deaver Colo., area; three sisters, Aldena Bender, of Martinsburg; Doris Anderson of Winchester, Va. And Edna Unger, of Inwood; and his loving dog, Pixel.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Morris Siler in 2003.

Servies were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 5, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.
