Perry “Sonny” “Nick” Strother Nicodemus

Perry “Sonny” “Nick” Strother Nicodemus, 76, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his home.

He was born Sept. 28, 1937, on the Wheatland Farm in Rippon, son of the late Perry Strother and Helen Drish Nicodemus.

Mr. Nicodemus was a 1956 graduate of Charles Town High School in Charles Town.

He graduated with a BS degree in Biology and Sociology from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, in 1961, and also attended the University of Virginia.

He worked for the Loudoun County School Systems as a teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Lincoln, Virginia, and at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville, Virginia. He worked as a Biological Lab Technician with the Dept. of Army in Berryville, Virginia. He was employed for more than 30 years as a Training Administrator with the Dept. of Army in Arlington, Virginia, and as an Educational/Foreign Training Specialist with the Dept. of Defense at the Pentagon in Arlington. He was also employed by General Motors Corp. in Martinsburg. From 1996 to present, he was a substitute teacher at Stonewall Jackson High School, and also throughout the Shenandoah County Virginia school system.

Mr. Nicodemus was a member of Flat Rock Church of the Brethren, where he served on the Board of Witness Commission. He was also a member of Forestville-Quicksburg Ruritan Club.

He was a former member of Kabletown United Methodist Church, where he served in the Men’s Group.

He loved being outside, enjoying the beauty of nature, and tending to his cows.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Harshman) Nicodemus.

Also surviving is a son, Perry “Buddy” Nicodemus Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Sherry Ann Welsh of Harpers Ferry; a brother, Roger Lee Nicodemus of Bunker Hill; a granddaughter; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31 at Flat Rock Church of the Brethren, New Market, Va., with the Rev. Charles Comer officiating. An additional service followed at 3 p.m., at Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
