Matthew E. Tabb

Matthew E. Tabb, formerly of Botetourt, Virginia, 39, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at his home in Grantsville, Maryland.

Matt was born Jan. 7, 1975, in Martinsburg, and was the son of Donald and Kathleen Haas Usak. He was a 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

Matt served nearly seven years in the U.S. Navy before receiving a medical retirement. He was an aviation electronics technician serving aboard the USS Enterprise and was deployed in the Persian Gulf during both the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War. Matt was an avid hockey fan, particularly of the Pittsburgh Penguins and enjoyed heavy metal music.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Krista Nichole Petty, of Buchanan, Virginia; his loving companion, Amanda Yoder, of Grantsville, Maryland; sisters, Suzanne Usak Bowling, of Daleville and Meredith Tabb Denton, of Martinsburg; his brother, Nicholas Tabb, of Shepherdstown; his father Phillip Tabb, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Matt’s life was held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 21 at The Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle, Virginia, with the Rev. Father Stephen McNally officiating. (Procession will form at the church). Burial was with full military honors at Godwin Cemetery.
