Jack David Fite

Jack David Fite, 63, of Harpers Ferry, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, from lung disease at Hospice of the Panhandle IPF.

Born Feb. 25, 1951, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Thomas Jackson “Jack” Fite and Ruth McClendon, whom are buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

David had a 35 year career as an engineer, concluding at General Dynamics Robotic Systems in Westminster, Maryland, for 15 years and before that at several other companies. David would say that his life, while shorter than hoped, was full of amazing adventure of love and life-more than most. He always had a story to tell. He loved bacon, fishing and his family. His family called him “Omnipotent Man.”

David is survived by his beloved wife, Ginny, at home; five sons, Mike Atchison, of Waynesboro, Pennyslvania, Josh Fite and wife, Heather, of Martinsburg, Matthew Fite, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Hal Friedlander and wife, Chloe, of Brooklyn, New York and Peter Friedlander and wife, Mary Pat, of Frederick, Maryland; four grandsons, Andy Atchison, Jamison and Hayden Fite, and August Friedlander; granddaughter, Kristyn Wright; sister-in-law, Gail Fite and her daughter, Shelby; brother, Dwayne Fite and his life partner, Mary Dee McFarlane, of Fairfax, Virgainia; and many nieces and nephews, Sarah and Chris Cooper, Mary and Drew Mensack, Rachel Akers, Brian and Aimee Fite and Kristen Fite.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kim Akers and his brother, Dana Fite.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry.
