Joan Thompson Moler,

Joan Thompson Moler, 85, of Shepherdstown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born April 1, 1929 in Lynchburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Jasper and Louise Burleigh Thompson.

Joan was a graduate of Charles Town High School, class of 1947. She attended Shepherd College and was a teacher in Jefferson County schools. She owned and operated Mother Goose Preschool in Charles Town for over thirty years, retiring at the age of 75.

Joan was a member of Phi Sigma Chi Sorority, member and former Chaplain of Pack Horse Ford Chapter of DAR, member of Historic Shepherdstown, Jefferson County Historical Society, former member of Dolly Madison Garden Club, member of the Jefferson County Garden Club,the OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier Seniors) of St. Agnes Catholic Church and enjoyed monthly outings with her Lunch Bunch Ladies in Shepherdstown.

JoJo was a loving and gracious friend to many and a teacher and surrogate mother to countless others. Scores of children owe their first educational experience to her. By her example, she taught many how to be a courageous mother, loving sister, compassionate friend and gracious and dignified lady.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith Moler Robertson and husband, Bryan, of Shepherdstown; Jane Moler Greaser and husband, Paul, of Laramie, Wyoming; sister Nancy Thompson Smith and husband, Steve, of Charles Town; grandchildren, Matthew Strider Robertson, of Shepherdstown, Kyle Warren Greaser and wife, Karla, Megan Louise Greaser, Christopher Robert Rucinski and wife Heather, all of Laramie, Wyoming, and Victoria Rucinski, of Cary, North Carolina; two nieces, Stephanie S. Diedericks and husband, Werner, and Katherine S. Fadeley; one nephew, Steve Sydnor Smith and wife, Renee’; eight great-grandchildren and her long-time special friend, Richard Adams of Winchester, Virginia .

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Shepherdstown with the Rev. T. Mathew Rowgh as Celebrant.

Private interment will be at a later date.
