Iria Jean Pendleton

On Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, mother and grandmother, Iria Jean Pendleton, 84, departed this life at her home.

She was born in Harpers Ferry, on May 11, 1930, daughter of the late Harry Willis and Jamima Fox Willis.

She was a member of the Wainwright Baptist Church.

Her childhood education started at Grandview Elementary School in Harpers Ferry, her secondary education was at the page Jackson High School in Charles Town. She completed her education at Storer College in Harpers Ferry.

Mrs. Pendleton taught elementary school in Shepherdstown for 35 years until retirement.

She enjoyed crocheting and word search puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Bryan E. Pendleton, of Harpers Ferry; granddaughter, Miss Tiffany N. Pendleton, of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Geraldine E. Turner, of Griswold, Conneticut; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Pendleton and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Wainwright Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Jackson officiating. Interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Harpers Ferry.
