Gordon Reid Banks

Gordon Reid Banks, 60, of Harpers Ferry, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, surrounded by family, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born June 29, 1954, in Martinsburg, he was the son of Clara Banks-Gant of Shepherdstown, and the late Gordon W. Banks.

He was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church.

Reid was self-employed as a general contractor.

As a youth, Reid, was a member of the Mt. Airy Winners 4-H Club. He graduated from Shepherdstown High School in 1972, where he played football and basketball. While attending Shepherd College, he was a member of the football team. He coached little league baseball for many years. He was also an avid WV Mountaineer fan.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Stephenie Rae Banks and fiance, TC Burrell, and grandson, Julian Burrell, all of Martinsburg; siblings, Susan Banks Cook and husband, Mike, of Shepherdstown, Kevin Banks and friend, Cristie Orr, of Shepherdstown, Allan Banks and wife, Christa, of Kearneysville, Todd Banks and wife, Angie, of Shepherdstown, Neill Banks and wife, Kenna, of Harpers Ferry, and Dawn Banks Pingley and husband, Keith, of Shenandoah Junction; one stepsister, Theresa Golding and husband, Todd, of Winchester, Virginia; one aunt, Deloris Stone of Kentucky; a long-time friend, Patty Cullen of Martinsburg; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J. Edgar Day; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George W. Banks; and stepfather, Charles M. Gant.

Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, with Pastor Joanna Marceron officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
