Catherine Isabelle Painter

Catherine Isabelle Painter, 91, of Harpers Ferry, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at Shenandoah Center in Charles Town.

Born Feb. 10, 1923 in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry Hawk and Daisy Belle Lancaster Hawk.

She was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years. Catherine loved children. She will be deeply missed by her family.

She is survived by her son, Lewis Painter Sr. and wife, Donna of Shepherdstown; one sister, Virginia Staubs and husband, Richard, of Harpers Ferry; four grandchildren, Lewis Michael Painter Jr. and wife, Angie, of Harpers Ferry, Catherine Rose Reckert, of Harpers Ferry, Wesley Scott Painter and wife, Bobbie Jo, of Martinsburg, and Robert Lee Painter and wife, Tammy, of Harpers Ferry; eight great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wesley Painter in 1945 and one niece, Phoebe Balsamo.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Harold Newsome, Jr. officiating. Interment was in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
