Larry Waldron Shipley

Larry Waldron Shipley, 71, Shepherdstown, departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 8, 1943, at the old King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Kenneth Banks and Ellen Faulkner Shipley.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

Larry was a lifetime resident of Shepherdstown, and a lifetime member of the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and trap. He was “Pap” to all the grandchildren. Larry was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara, at home; two sons, Larry Shipley and wife, Kim, and Kenneth Shipley and wife, Donna, all of Shepherdstown; one daughter, Lorie Kemp and husband, Ron, also of Shepherdstown; six grandchildren, Crissy and L.D. Shipley, Adrianna Fleetwood, Courtney and Hunter Shipley, and Elli Kemp; four great-grandchildren, Trinity and Chayse Shipley, and Jayden and Kamdyn Fleetwood; two sisters, Velma Lawson and Emily Buracker; and two brothers, Bob Shipley, and Garry Shipley, who is Larry’s twin.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Shipley.

The family welcomes all to a celebration of Larry’s life from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Shepherdstown Fire Department.
