Mary Snowdon Byron
Mary Snowdon Byron, 77, of Shepherdstown, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 at her residence under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
She was born April 19, 1937 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. the daughter of Kenneth Augustus Durham and Josephine Snowdon Durham.
Mrs. Byron was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, was active in her community and was a member of Zion Episcopal Church.
She graduated from Stuart Hall School and Sweet Briar College and remained active with both Alumni Associations.
She served many years on the Board of Directors at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as an English Tutor, was active in her local Book and Garden clubs, was a member of the Millbrook Society and served as Co-Chair of the 1976 Charles Town Bicentennial Celebration.
She is survived by her first husband, Sewall Tyler; sons, Kenneth DuVal Tyler and wife Dawn, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Richard Harris Tyler and wife Jeena, Hagerstown, Maryland; grandchildren, Jordan Tyler, Logan Tyler and Jared Tyler; sister, Louise Purvis and husband John, St. Andrews, Scotland; brother, Richard Snowdon Durham, Martinsburg.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her second husband, Harold H. “Chuck” Kisner ; third husband, James Byron and brother, Taylor Rogers Durham.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town, with The Very Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating. Interment was private.
