Jane Irene Carper

Jane Irene Carper, 77, of Kearneysville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility, Kearneysville. She was the widow of William F. “Slug” Carper Jr., who died April 6, 2013.

She was born July 1, 1937, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Harvey Lawrence Shirley and Annie E. (Domer) Shirley.

Mrs. Carper was a loving mother and grandmother. She retired from Charles Town Races in the Mutuel Department.

Mrs. Carper was a member of Inwood Family Worship Center, Inwood.

She was an avid auction and yard sale queen.

She is survived by two daughters, Delores J. Hampshire and husband, Mike, of Kearneysville, and Pamela Rogers of Kearneysville; two grandsons, Cody Hampshire and fiancee, Ashley Dunn, and Cory Hampshire; four sisters; two brothers; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caring and loving friend, Dr. Mary Lopez.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother.

A graveside service was held at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Elmwood Cemetery in Shepherdstown, with Bishop David Palmer officiating. There was no visitation.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
