Alexander G. Kemnitzer

Feb 27, 2015

Alexander G. Kemnitzer, 32, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident two days earlier on his way home to Shepherdstown from work.

Born Aug. 27, 1982 in Washington D.C., he is the son of Susan Coady Kemnitzer and David A. Kemnitzer of Shepherdstown.

Alex obtained his undergraduate degree from Shepherd University, majoring in Business and Economics. He was employed by H&R Block, Charles Town.

Alex devoted himself to many community projects and spent many years promoting the visions and serving on the Boards of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle and the American Conservation Film Festival.

To honor and reflect the kind of person he was, Alex’s parents respected and fulfilled his wish to be an organ donor. As a result, three individuals received the gift of life.

Alex was an avid sports fan who listened to Tony Kornheiser’s commentary everyday. He also loved to play the stock market. And he gained a deep understanding of strategy by studying ancient Roman history. He loved to talk about all of these subjects simultaneously.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m on Saturday, February 28, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Shepherdstown with Father T. Mathew Rowgh as celebrant. A reception will immediately follow at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle, Dr. G. Edward Grove, Executive Director, 630 W. Race Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401 or American Conservation Film Festival, Jeff Feldman, President, P.O. Box 889, Shepherdstown WV 25443.
