Ella L. (Stickel) Shank
Ella L. (Stickel) Shank, 82, of Middletown, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Vindobona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Braddock Heights, Maryland.
Born Sept. 7, 1932, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Ruth (Hoffman) Stickel.
Ella was raised in Shenandoah Junction and graduated from Shepherdstown High School.
She worked as a program coordinator for the National Institute of Mental Health in Rockville, Maryland. She retired in 1996 after 35 years.
Ella served as a volunteer and member of the Board of Directors at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland, and she also was a volunteer at Frederick Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederick, Maryland.
She is survived by her husband, Harold L. Shank; her daughter, Donna E. Germuga and husband, John, of Gaithersburg, Maryland; one sister, Alice Cottrell, of Martinsburg; and three granddaughters, Jaclyn, Delani, and Shea.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half sisters, Lilly Moore and Helen Beck; and one half brother, John Rockenbaugh.
A funeral ceremony was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. The Rev. Lynn Wilson officiated. Final resting place ceremonies followed at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
