Dolores Makepeace Rooney

Dolores Makepeace Rooney, age 92, of Shepherdstown, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford, Delaware.

She was born Saturday, June 10, 1922, in Patterson, New Jersey, to Edwin H Makepeace and Irene (Johns) Makepeace.

Dolores’ love of her family was the center of her life. She was very warm, compassionate and extremely fun-loving. For those who were touched by her caring and understanding ways, she will live on forever.

A devout Catholic, Dolores was actively involved in her parishes which include St. Michael’s, Silver Spring, Maryland; Mother Seton, Germantown, Maryland; and St. Agnes, Shepherdstown. She had a special bond with the Blessed Mother and was a 60 year member of the Sodality of Our Lady.

Mrs. Rooney is survived by her four children, Patrick Charles Rooney, of Corsica, Pennsylvania, John Edwin Rooney (Robin), of Windermere, Florida, Jane Frances Rooney (Jo), of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Susan Jane Jefferson, of Germantown; five grandchildren, Brian S. Jefferson, of Brunswick, Maryland, Stacy J. Ellyson, of Matthews, North Carolina, Jodi J. Lucia, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, John J. Rooney, of Charlotte, North Carolina and Kristina M. Rooney, of Windermere; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Mother Seton Catholic Church, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd., Germantown

Interment was private.
